Called To Prepare The Way – Matthew 3:1-12

1.  In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,

2.  And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

3.  For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, Th e voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

4.  And the same John had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.

5.  Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,

6.  And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

7.  But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

8.  Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:

9.  And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

10.  And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

11.  I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance.  But he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

12.  Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

A Regal Response to Holy Light – Matthew 2:7-15

7.  Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.

8.  And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.

9.  When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

10.  When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

11.  And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.

12.  And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

13.  And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

14.  When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

15.  And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

Call Before Birth – Matthew 1:18-25

18.  This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged in marriage to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.

19.  Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and was unwilling to disgrace her publicly, he resolved to divorce her quietly.

20.  But after he had pondered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to embrace Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

21.  She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”
]
22.  All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:

23.  “Behold, the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel” (which means, “God with us”).

24.  When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and embraced Mary as his wife.
]

25.  But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a Son.  And he gave Him the name Jesus.

Call Through Heritage – Hebrews 1:1-5; Matthew 1:1-6, 16-17

1.  GOD, WHO at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

2.  Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

3.  Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:

4.  Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

5.  For unto which of the angels said he at any time Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee?  And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

1.  The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

2.  Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;

3.  And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;

4.  And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;

5.  And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;

6.  And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;

16.  And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

17.  So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

Impartial Love – Acts 4:32-37; 5:1-11

1. My brothers, as you hold out your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, do not show favoritism.

2.   Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in.

3.  If you lavish attention on the man in fine clothes and say, “Here is a seat of honor,” but say to the poor man, “You must stand” or “Sit at my feet,”

4.  Have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

5.  Listen, my beloved brothers: Has not God chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom He promised those who love Him?

6.  But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who oppress you and drag you into court?

7.  Are they not the ones who blaspheme the noble name by which you have been called?

8.  If you really fulfill the royal law stated in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well.

9.  But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.

10.  Whoever keeps the whole law but stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

11.  For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.”  If you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.

12.  Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom.

13.  For judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

Sharing Love – Acts 4:32-37; 5:1-11

32.  The multitude of believers was one in heart and soul. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they owned.

33.  With great power the apostles continued to give their testimony about the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And abundant grace was upon them all.

34.  There were no needy ones among them, because those who owned lands or houses would sell their property, bring the proceeds from the sales.

35.  and lay them at the apostles’ feet for distribution to anyone as he had need.

36.  Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (meaning Son of Encouragement).

37.  Sold a field he owned, brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

1.  Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property.

2.  With his wife’s full knowledge, he kept back some of the proceeds for himself, but brought a portion and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

3.  Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and withhold some of the proceeds from the land?

4.  Did it not belong to you before it was sold?  And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal?  How could you conceive such a deed in your heart?  You have not lied to men, but to God!”.

5.  On hearing these words, Ananias fell down and died. And great fear came over all who heard what had happened.

6.  Then the young men stepped forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.

7.  About three hours later his wife also came in, unaware of what had happened.

8.  “Tell me,” said Peter, “is this the price you and your husband got for the land?”  “Yes,” she answered, “that is the price.”

9.  “How could you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord?” Peter replied. “Look, the feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”

10.  At that instant she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

11.  And great fear came over the whole church and all who heard about these events.

Confident Love – 1 John 3:11-24

11.  For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another

12.  Not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous.

\
13.  Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you.

14.  We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death.

15.  Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

16.  By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

17.  But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?

18.  My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

19.  And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.

20.  For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

21.  Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.

22.  And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

23.  And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.

24.  Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

Abiding Love – John 15:4-17

4.  Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.

5.  I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.

6.  If anyone does not remain in Me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers. Such branches are gathered up, thrown into the fire, and burned.

7.  If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

8.  This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, proving yourselves to be My disciples.

9.  As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Remain in My love.

10.  If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love.

11.  I have told you these things so that My joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.

12.  This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.

13.  Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

14.  You are My friends if you do what I command you.

15.  No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything I have learned from My Father I have made known to you.

16.  You did not choose Me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will remain—so that whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you.

17.  This is My command to you: Love one another.

Loving By Serving – John 13:1-15; 34-35

1.  Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.

2.  And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him,

3.  Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God,

4.  Rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself.

5.  After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.

6.  Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?”

7.  Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.”

8.  Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”

9.  Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”

10.  Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.”

11.  For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, “You are not all clean.”

12.  So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?

13.  You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am.

14.  If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.

15.  For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.

34.  A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

35.  By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
